WGBPA cancels Founder’s Day 2006
Already working on 2007

Plans for the Sept. 24, 2006 Founders Day were dropped in September when the Willow Glen Business and Professional Association found it had too few sponsors.
The daylong event was to have included a Founder’s Day Run and Walk, children’s activities and an afternoon silent auction as well as food and wine tasting. WGBPA had had a difficult time locating and getting sponsors to help out with the day’s events. To compensate, it began cutting expenses and discussed canceling the event in August. Read

Louise Benson honored with plaque at Hummingbird Park

Staff Writer
Family, friends and city officials recently honored Louise Benson with a plaque at Hummingbird Park, three blocks from her home where she started the genesis of Sacred Heart Community Service and Martha’s Kitchen.
No one knows who named Benson the Mother Teresa of San Jose, but they know why. Her mission, to feed and clothe the poor, began in 1964 when she made her first food basket delivery in downtown. She was 61.
