Willow Glen Kiwanis schedules
upcoming events

By Larry Shoemaker
Special to the Times

February saw the Willow Glen Kiwanis Club preparing for our spring and summer events. We are sending out information to the Willow Glen High Key Club about the scholarship program and the March Total K Day at Alum Rock Park. Total K Day will be a community service project to help clean up the park.

In May, we will have a Special Guest Day for interested prospective members of Kiwanis. This will be followed by our Kiwanis at the San Jose Giants Day and the annual Music in the Glen program. Information about the bands and events at Music in the Glen will available soon.

We are also looking into having pancake breakfasts as fundraisers for local community organizations. The sponsoring site has yet to be identified. The last few years have posed special problems as fewer places are available, and some that have hosted such events have begun charging fees that make fundraisers ineffective. We believe we may have found a few potential sites for this year.

Our most recent guest speakers were Jeff Spoelstra of C.H.A.T. for Teens, an online service for teens to talk anonymously with someone about issues in their lives. Erin Beneford of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, which provides information and referral services for families with members who have various mental and/or emotional difficulties, also spoke at a recent meeting.

We expect to announce our spring speakers’ schedule soon. Watch for more details!
