Willow Glen readying for Relay

Three of the women who keep Willow Glen's Relay For Life going took a trip to Los Angeles in November to attend the California Summit for the American Cancer Society's 25th year of Relay.

Mary Keenan, heading into her third year as chair of the Willow Glen event, and Sherry Rodriguez and Debbie Evans, both eight-year volunteers for the Willow Glen Relay attended the two-day sessions that featured meetings designed to show different methods of improving Relay success.

"This year ACS celebrates 25 years of hope," said Rodriguez, who noted the three had "a great time and learned a lot." They are working with other volunteers to plan the upcoming kick-off party, which will be held in February or March hoping to make an exciting start to an exciting year.

This year's relay will be held May 16-17 at the Willow Glen High School track. The volunteers hope to outdo last year's success, which raised more than $200,000 and had more than 130 survivors along with 55 teams and 800 participants.

It must be important to Keenan, because she has lots to do this year with three children graduating; one from college, one from high school and one from middle school.
